Steinnes - Ræktunarbú

The year 2009 was very good in the Steinnes breeding. The high lights of the year were beeing rewarded the breeding farm at Fjórðungsmót at Kaldármelar with Kiljan from Steinnes  as the leading horse. In october Steinnes was also nominated as one of the best breeding farms in Iceland along with 14 other farms, as well as it was awarded the number one breeding farm in East-Húnavatnssýsla.

Summary of the Steinnes‘s breeding for the year 2009.

Here we‘re going to mention the horses that were doing good in assesments this summer.

·        Kiljan from Steinnes got 8,59 in over all rating, for riedability 8,84 and for trot, pace, gallop, spirit an general impression he has 9,0. For conformation he has 8,21, 9,0 for hooves and 9,5 for back and croup. It has been decided that Kiljan is going to stay in Iceland for some time and hopefully we‘ll see him at Landsmót 2010. The owner of Kiljan is Ingolf Nordal from Denmark.

·        Glettingur from Steinnes got 8,26 in total. He‘s got 8,48 for  riedability, 9 for general impression, 7,93 for conformation, 9,0 for back and croup  and 9 for main and tale. The owner of Glettingur is Páll Bjarki Pásson from Flugumýri in Skagafjörður.

·        Dofri from Steinnes got 8,22 in total. He has 8,26 for riedability and 8,16 for conformation. A corporation has been made around Dofri and we now own 33% of him.

·        Tryggvi Geir from Steinnes has 8,03 in total, four gaited. He has 8,10 in riedability, 9 for tölt, 7,93 for conformation, 9 for back and croup. The owner of Tryggvi Geir is Tryggvi Björnsson

·        Freydís from Steinnes has 8,27 in total. She has got 8,30 in riedability, 8,23 for conformation of which she got 9 for hooves. The owner of Freydís is Baldvin Ari Guðlaugsson.

·        Gerpla from Steinnes, the daughter of Gammur has got 8,24 in total, four gaited. She has 8,36 in riedability, and 9,0 for tölt, gallop, trot, spirit and gengral impression. For conformation she got 8,05. The owner of Gerpla are Ganghestar ehf.

·        Ólga from Steinnes, a four gaited daugther of Gammur got 8,0 in total. She got 7,80 for riedability, 9,0 for general impression and walk. The she got 9,29 for conformation and 9 for hooves. Ólga is a young mare that hopefully will be doing good things next year.

·        Dögg from Steinnes, four gaiter, got 8,07 in total. She has got 8,10 for riedability, 9 for tölt, 8,03 for conformation and 9,0 for the neck. Finnur Ingólfsson is the owner of Dögg.

·        Árdís from Steinnes, also a daughter of Gammur has 7,96 in total. She has got 7,96 for riedability, 9,0 for tölt and 7,96 for conformation. Árdís is pregnant from Bragi from Kópavogi.

·        Pera from Steinnes ( four years old), also a daughter of Gammur has 7,81 in total. She has 7,78 in riedability and 7,85 for bygging. The owner of Pera is Emilie Lodetoft.

·        Bragi from Kópavogur has 8,31 in total. For riedability he has gor 8,57, for 9,0 for tölt, gallop and general impression and for bygging 8,0. We and Tryggvi Björnsson own Bragi – 50/50.

Gammur was very active this summer and we used him a lot, cause he has been giving us a lot af great horses. From him have come seven first price horses and eight second place horses. He has been giving horse which have exmtremely good spirit, relaxed temper and great tölt and trot in beginning of taming. This summer around 50 mares went under him and around 90 % got pregnant. The mares that we put to him are:

·        Assa from Steinns with total 7,98 which has given three 1st price horses and 3 2nd place horses

·        Krafla from Brekka with total 8,48, the daughter of Gustur from Hóll

This year has been entertaining and eventful

Everything is as usual in Steinnes. Everyone are healty as a horse or „ við hestaheilsu“ as we say in Icelandic, at least free from all the pigs. Well at least though it is a little late, we wish you all marry christmas, and a happy new year and hope that next year will be good.
