Spring winds in Steinnes

The nordic fertilitygod Freyr seems to have dropped by in his annual spring visit at the Steinnes farm. Every able body at the farm is busy tenting the sheep, because now it‘s their birthtime – Sauðburður.

Each day about 15 lambs are being born, the sun is shining in the northern wind and the grass is getting greener everyday. There is also a lot going on in horse breeding, the 2ndof May the first foal was born and yesterday morning the sixth foal this spring was born.

Venus from Steinnes gave birth to the first foal, a beautiful mare, bay with star, from Gammur from Steinnes.

Our good old Assa doesn’t let us down and gave a wonderful bay skewbald mare, also from Gammur from Steinnes. Assa has been one of our best breeding mares through the years and has given us many good, for example Dögg from Steinnes.

Then our next stallion material was born. Krafla from Brekka, daughter of Gustur from Hóll, gave birth to foal. The foal is chestnut with star and the son of Gammur from Steinnes. The foal is obviously the son of Gammur since it shows the same characteristics as Gammur in being curious and definitely not afraid of humans.

There were a lot of expectation that became joy when Vaka from Steinnes gave birth and the foal that she carried from Kiljan from Steinnes turned out to be a chestnut with star mare. We think this is a promising foal since it has good conformation and long legs.

The other day when we went out to check out the foals we noticed that Melodía from Steinnes had just given birth to a black socked mare with a white spot on it’s back or you could say the foal is black skewbald. It´s father is Gammur from Steinnes.

Yesterday morning another son of Gammur was born,  a bay foal from Jörp, daughter of Tvífari from Kjartansstaðir.
